Tanya started dancing in 1999. She originally learned ceremonies from Lakota elders and Danza elders in California and Arizona. She moved to New Mexico in 2001, to learn more regarding the ceremonial aspects of Danza from Captain Guillermo Chavez Rosette, and to join his group “Danza Azteca De Anahuac.”

Telpochtli, her seven-year-old son, is also a member of the group
